Eye-Exercises-addis ababa eye clinic

Exercising the eyes is an important part of achieving an overall healthy lifestyle, but how exactly do you exercise your eyes? A number of exercises are known to reduce eye strain, strengthen particular eye muscles, while also potentially improving vision over time.

Visit the Addis Ababa Eye Clinic for your regular eye check-up.

What Are the Benefits of Eye Exercises?

Engaging in these exercises doesn’t alter the shape of your eye, and in all likelihood, won’t correct astigmatism, myopia, or hyperopia. However, the strength of your eye muscles can be improved and can help you better focus on visual tasks. You may even see gradual changes to your vision if you hone in on symptoms like skipping words or lines when reading and regular headaches or eye discomfort.

Conditions That Might Improve with Eye Exercises

Eye exercises might not be a cure-all solution but they do have numerous benefits when it comes to certain conditions. Exercise might be beneficial when dealing with strabismus (eye turning), amblyopia (lazy eye), improbability to focus on a single object, and difficulty using both eyes together (eye teaming). In addition to strengthening muscles around the eyes, these exercises can be helpful for proper focusing and stimulating the brain’s vision center.

Eye Exercises You Can Perform at Home

Blinking

This exercise is ideal if you spend long periods staring at digital screens as it helps keep your eyes hydrated. All you need to do is close your eyes for a few seconds and then reopen them several times to feel relief. For best effect squeeze your eyelids tightly closed as this will help stimulate oil glands in your lids.

Palming

Rubbing your hands together before closing each one over an individual eye makes up this exercise that has been sometimes called “eye yoga”. This warm feeling might help relax the strained muscles around your eyes after having held that position for 5 minutes.

Focusing

If you commonly find yourself looking at a single distant object or book all day then you should practice what’s knows as 20/20/20 rule every 20 minutes; look something up to 20 feet away for 20 seconds then resume the previous task.

Zooming

Here’s one more technique that will train both your focusing system and sight tracking ability: hold up your thumb 10 inches from your face and focus on it for 15 seconds before gently bringing it closer and moving back and forth from left to right for 30 seconds at least.

Figure 8

Trace a figure 8 with an imaginary object on the ground 10 feet away from you for 30 seconds then switch directions for best results when it comes to improve sight tracking skills.

Additional Matters To Consider

It’s a good idea to visit an optician if some symptoms appear such as blurry vision, red eyes, light sensitivity, swollen eyelids, pain-inflicting loss of vision. These exercises aren’t meant to replace professional medical help when appropriate after all!
